OTTAWA, Kan. – (RV) Ottawa University showcased both dominance and resilience on Tuesday afternoon, shutting out Bethany College in game one before rallying late to claim an 8-5 victory in game two and complete the sweep in Lindsborg, Kan.
Game 1 – Ottawa 5, Bethany 0
Ottawa set the tone early and never let up, using timely hitting and a dominant performance in the circle to blank Bethany, 5-0.
The Braves capitalized on Bethany miscues in the second inning to grab a 2-0 lead. Ottawa added two more runs in the third, highlighted by a solo home run from
Emma Melvin, and extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by
Braxton Stainbrook.
In the circle,
Lanie Becker was in complete control, tossing a four-hit shutout and keeping Bethany off the scoreboard all game long.
Game 2 – Ottawa 8, Bethany 5
Game two tested Ottawa early, but the Braves responded with a late-game surge to secure the sweep.
Ottawa struck first on a leadoff home run by
Abby Bellamy in the opening inning, but Bethany answered with five runs through the first three innings to take a 5-2 lead.
The Braves chipped away, scoring one run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to tie the game at 5-5. Bellamy delivered again in the sixth with an RBI double to even the score.
Ottawa then broke the game open in the seventh inning.
Alexandra Genty's RBI double gave the Braves the lead, and
Tori Farnham followed with a hit that helped extend the advantage to 8-5.
Audrey Harrison shut the door in relief, holding Bethany scoreless over the final 4.1 innings to secure the comeback victory.
