KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (RV) Ottawa University dominated both sides of a doubleheader against Avila, using a combination of explosive offense and lockdown pitching to secure a sweep on Thursday. The Braves run-ruled the Eagles in game one before grinding out a complete team win in game two.
Game 1: Ottawa 10, Avila 0 (7 inn.)
Ottawa set the tone early and never looked back, exploding for 10 runs on 14 hits while silencing Avila's offense.
After three scoreless innings, the Braves broke through in the fourth when
Kaiden Hoapili delivered an RBI single to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead. That opened the floodgates.
The fifth inning was the knockout punch. Ottawa plated five runs, highlighted by:
Ottawa added two more runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, including a two-run blast from
Jose Lopez, sealing the run-rule victory.
On the mound,
Adrian Quintana was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout. He allowed just two hits while striking out eight, completely controlling the Eagles lineup.
Game 2: Ottawa 4, Avila 2
The Braves struck first in the fourth inning as
Kaiden Hoapili drove in a run to make it 1-0. Avila answered in the bottom half, but Ottawa regained control late.
In the sixth inning, Ottawa broke the tie with a clutch sequence:
- Garrett Dodd ripped a two-RBI triple to give the Braves the lead
- Hoapili followed with an RBI groundout to extend it to 4-1
Avila added a late solo home run in the seventh, but Ottawa's bullpen shut the door.
