2016: Nero played in 13 games, starting in seven in his freshman season. He took two shots, had 26 ground balls and finished with 22 caused turnovers.

High School: Nero earned one athletic letter in football and three in lacrosse for Magnolia High School. He played in the Max Emfinger All-American Bowl Game on January 3, 2015. At the game, Nero had three carries for 12 yards and two tackles on special teams. He earned Second Team All-District and was awarded The Heart Award. As a senior he rushed for 788 yards on 124 carries and scored five touchdowns. Nero also had nine receptions for 127 yards and had one receiving touchdown. As a kick returner he had 220 yards on 11 attempts. Nero also earned four player of the week honors.  In lacrosse, he was selected to play in the 2015 THLL South All-Star Game held at Dawson High School in Pearland, Texas. Nero was a two-time First Team All-District lacrosse selection.
