2020-21: In his sophomore season, Sommer played on the junior varsity team.

2019-20: Sommer was a member of the junior varsity team as a freshman.

High School: Sommer lettered in basketball, cross country, and baseball for Central Heights. On the basketball court, he earned Second Team All-Flint Hills League honors and was an Ottawa Herald First Team All-Area selection. Sommer was selected to play in the Flint Hills All-Star Game.
