Coach Kubbs is in his first season as an assistant coach with the OU baseball program. He is the Braves’ pitching coach and assistant recruiting coordinator.
Kubbs comes to Ottawa University after spending the 2018 season as an assistant coach at Montreat College in Montreat, N.C. He was the pitching coach and helped with recruiting. During his time at MC, the pitching staff set the school record for strikeouts in a single season (368). The pitching staff also lowered its ERA from 7.06 in 2017 to 5.43 in 2018. Kubbs also coached two All-Conference performers.
In the summer of 2018, Kubbs was the Pitching Coach for the Asheboro Copperheads of the prestigious Coastal Plain League. Kubbs helped mentor a pitcher to the Coastal Plain League All Star Game.
Before coaching at Montreat College, Kubbs spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as assistant coach with Oklahoma Wesleyan University. During the 2016-17 season, Kubbs was the assistant pitching coach and catching coach. In 2015-16, he was the assistant hitting coach and infield/catching coach. While at OKWU, he helped in scouting and recruiting prospects. Kubbs also helped with game day operations, game planning, and scouting reports. In 2017, Kubbs and the Eagles went on to win the KCAC Regular Season Championships, KCAC Tournament Championship, the NAIA Opening Round, and earn a trip to the 2017 Avista NAIA World Series.
Kubbs also was an assistant coach during the summers of 2016 and 2017 with Xenia Scouts where he was the pitching coach and the hitting coach. He helped lead the Scouts to the 2016 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League South Division Championship. The 2016 Xenia Scouts set the organization records for single season wins with 27. In 2017, the Scouts pitching staff had two pitchers selected to the GLSCL All-Star Game. One was named to the GLSCL 1st team and a Perfect Game Summer Ball All American.
Kubbs earned a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Minors in Education and Sport Management from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in May of 2015. During his playing career at MVNU (2011 to 2015) the Cougars won 3 Regular Season Conference Championships, 2 Conference Tournament Championships, and made 5 appearances in the NAIA Regional Tournament. The Cougars complied a record of 179–84 during his time at MVNU. He earned a masters of science and strategic leadership from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in June of 2017.
