Coach Smith is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach with the OU baseball program.

Smith spent five years as a pitcher at the professional level, with experience as a starter, in long relief, as a set- up man, and as a closer. He finished his professional career with the New Britain Bees of the Atlantic League, which is highly regarded as one of the best independent leagues in the United States.

Before playing for New Britain, Smith played for the Gateway Grizzlies in the highly regarded Frontier League. Prior to joining the Gateway Grizzlies, he was a member of Boston Red Sox (MLB) organization and spent two seasons pitching for the Greenville Drive. Smith helped them to a 2017 South Atlantic League Championship. He got his start in professional baseball with the Gateway Grizzlies before his contract was purchased half-way through his second season by the Boston Red Sox.

Smith played baseball at the University of Kansas where he was an everyday outfielder and middle of the lineup hitter for the Jayhawks. He also pitched out of the bullpen. Smith helped KU to a third seed at the 2014 Louisville Regional.

Smith played several seasons prior to college for former Kansas City Royal, Mike Macfarlane as part of the Mac ‘n’ Seitz Indians. He also played for the Midland Redskins where he helped lead them to a Connie Mack World Series Title. Smith was named the Connie Mack World Series MVP and received the Silver Slugger Award.

Smith grew up in Leavenworth, Kan. where he attended Leavenworth High School and Lansing High School. He graduated from Lansing High School in 2011. Smith is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and is a performance enhancement specialist. He helps with private instruction for pitching, hitting, and strength training in his spare time.
