Coach Meyer is in his second season as an assistant coach with the OU baseball program.

In his first season Meyer helped coach two All-KCAC performers and KCAC Freshman of the Year, Jeremiah Arellano. The Braves finished the season with a .272 batting average, 174 RBI, a .342 slugging percentage, and a .367 on base percentage.

Meyer brings significant and successful playing and coaching experience to the OU baseball program. He comes to Ottawa University from NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. where he was graduate assistant coach.  

While at UCM, Meyer assisted with recruiting efforts, helped with daily development of catchers, infielders, and outfielders and worked with the head coach to develop the offensive and daily practice plans. Meyer also managed the team travel plans and youth camps. He formulated opponent-scouting reports and carried out in-game scouting. While at UCM, Meyer coached four All-Region players, nine All-Conference selections, one MIAA Gold Glove winner, and two academic All-District performers. UCM finished the season as the 2018 MIAA Tournament Champion and had a record of 39-17. As a team, the Mules hit .322, had a .490 slugging percentage, a .405 on base percentage, 56 home runs, stole 99 bases, and catchers caught 46 percent of runners stealing.

Before working at UCM, Meyer was an assistant coach at Allen Community College in Iola, Kan. He coached hitters, catchers, and infielders. Meyer coordinated recruiting efforts, managed team travel plans and youth camps. He coached third base, called pitches, and handled defensive positioning during games. Meyer also formulated opponent-scouting reports and carried out in-game scouting. At ACC, Meyer coached 13 All-KJCCC performers, two All-Region performers, one Gold Glove selection, and had 24 sophomores move on to colleges and universities. In 2017, ACC hit .324, had a .525 slugging percentage, .432 on base percentage, 66 homeruns, and catchers caught 23 percent of runner stealing. The 2016 Red Devils hit .332, had a .554 slugging percentage, a .412 on base percentage, 82 homeruns, and 25 percent of runners were caught stealing. ACC also had one player drafted in the 23rd round by the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Prior to being an assistant coach at ACC, Meyer was an assistant coach at Bishop Ready High School in Columbus, Ohio where he managed and developed hitters, and catchers. Meyer helped develop the offense and worked closely with the head coach on practice planning and incorporating drills for skill development. Meyer coached first base and called pitches during games. He helped BRHS to the program’s first playoff win in eight years. 

He learned the game under two of the most successful coaches in the college game today –  Iowa Western Community College’s head coach Mark Rardin and Florida Atlantic University’s head coach John McCormack. Rardin has won three out of the last eight NJCAA Division I National Championships and McCormack has 27 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience and over 350 wins in 10 years at FAU.

Meyer graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2014 with a bachelor degree in public safety administration. He was a two year letter winner on the baseball diamond for FAU. As a senior, Meyer was named FAU team captain, as well as a Johnny Bench Award Watch List Honoree, and was named FAU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In his junior season, Meyer helped the Owls to a Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship and to the NCAA Division I Chapel Hill Regional.

Before transferring to FAU, Meyer played two years at junior college baseball power Iowa Western Community College and graduated in 2012 with an associate degree of science. He helped IWCC to the 2012 NJCAA World Series Championship and earned First Team All-American honors at catcher. Meyer was named to the 2012 NJCAA World Series All-Tournament Team as a catcher, was the Rawlings Northern District Big Stick Award Winner and he earned First Team All-Region and All-District honors. In 2011, he was named the Northern District MVP and was a First Team All-Region and All-District. Meyer holds the IWCC school record for put outs with 534.
