Coach Philpot is in his first year as the offensive coordinator for the OU football team. Philpot will also coach the quarterbacks and receivers.

Before coming to Ottawa University, Philpot spent seven seasons as a full-time member of the Pittsburg State University (PSU) football staff. Prior to that, he spent three years as a graduate assistant with PSU.

While at PSU, Philpot coached three All-Americans and 10 All-MIAA players during his tenure on the Pitt State staff. He was part of PSU’s fourth all-time National Championship in 2011.

Philpot was a two-time NCAA Division II All-American at quarterback for the Gorillas and was a four year starter. He finished his career tied for second among all NCAA Division II quarterbacks in career victories with a record of 38-8 (.826).

He was the first quarterback in NCAA history to rush and pass for 1,000 yards three times in a career. Philpot set the MIAA record for total offense with 10,168 yards. He shattered numerous PSU records, rushing for 4,337 yards and passing for 5,831 yards. Philpot led the Gorillas to the 2004 NCAA Division II National Runner-up finish and a 14-1 record. He was inducted into the PSU Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 25, 2014.

Philpot earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from PSU in 2005 and he completed a master’s degree in p.e/strength & conditioning in 2008.
