2014-15: In his first season as a Brave, Oakes played in 28 games and made 27 starts. He earned Honorable Mention All-KCAC. Oakes averaged 13.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 42.1 percent from the floor, 39.5 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 69.5 percent from the free throw line. Oakes scored an OU career high 27 points against Tabor College (2/27), had a career high 14 rebounds versus Kansas Wesleyan University (1/17), and tallied a career high five assists twice with the last against Bethany College (1/28). He scored in double figures in 21 of 28 games and had 13 games where he scored 15 or more points. Oakes finished the year with four double-doubles.
Johnson County Community College: Oakes earned one letter at Johnson County Community College. At JCCC, Oakes appeared in 30 games and averaged 17.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He earned Honorable Mention All-Jayhawk honors. Oakes shot 49 percent from the floor, 39.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 75.7 percent from the free throw line. He scored in double figures in 26 games and had a career high 28 points against Southeast Community College (1/11/14).
University of Central Missouri: At UCM, Oakes redshirted his first season for the Mules. In his redshirt freshman season, he appeared in eight games and scored a season high five points against Culver-Stockton College (11/17/12).
High School: In high school, Oakes earned four letters in basketball for the Griffins. He averaged 18 points, 6.6 rebounds, and two assists per game during his senior season. Oakes was named all-conference, all-district, second team all-metro, all-state and district Player of the Year as a senior. During his junior year, he averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. Oakes was an All-Northland pick as a sophomore as well and averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per outing. He was also a National Honors Society inductee.
