Biography

2017-18: As a freshman, Martinez finished with an overall record of 15-9. He had a dual record of 4-0. Martinez had a total of six pins with four falls and two technical falls. He earned All-KCAC honors. Martinez is ranked eighth in the OU record book in top 10 season victories (15), is tied for 10th in top 10 season winning pecentage (.625), is second in season top 10 wins in the 125 pound weight class (15), and is second in single season top 10 wins for a freshman (15).

High School: Martinez earned four letters in wrestling for Rouse High School and was named team captain three times. He wrestled under head coach Kevin Carter. Martinez was a four-time state qualifier, placing second in 2015 and third in 2017. He was a 2017 District and Regional Champion. Martinez was named the 2017 UIL Most Outstanding Wrestler in 5A Region 4. He was the 2016 Southern Plains Regional Champion in Freestyle and Greco Roman at 113 pounds. Martinez finished second at the 2016 Texas State Championship in Freestyle and Greco Roman at 120 pounds. He competed in club wrestling for 3F Wrestling under head coach Will McKinney. Martinez has been wrestling since he was in the fourth grade.

Personal: Martinez is the son of Gilbert and Stephanie Sanchez and plans to major in biology.
