Braves Take Short Road Trip to KC for Sunday Matchup Against Avila Eagles

OTTAWA, Kan. -- The Ottawa University men's soccer team travels to Kansas City on Sunday for a 1:30 matchup against the Avila Eagles.
  • Following the first two games that resulted in one loss and one draw, Ottawa has won seven of their last eight games to push their KCAC leading record to 7-2-1.  The Braves have jumped out to a 4-0 start to conference play for the first time since 2012. The Braves are coming off a 3-2 win at home against Tabor, courtesy of Slobodan Novicevic's late penalty kick in the 84th minute that put the Braves on top.

  • The Eagles are had a 1-0 loss to McPherson and a 1-1 tie to Southwestern in their last two matches. Avila is led on offense by Malcolm Goswell and Brennan Ortgega, each scoring two goals apiece.

  • Ottawa holds a 12-4 record in the series history, and is on a seven-game winning streak against the Eagles dating back to 2015.  Samir Brito scored a first-half header, and Molnar hit an 86th minute game winner in last year's 2-1 win over the Eagles.

  • Ottawa is led on offense by Bence Molnar, the KCAC's leading goal scorer and the NAIA's second leading goal scorer with 14 goals. Slobodan Novicevic has benefited playing alongside Molnar up front, ranking third in the KCAC in goals (7), third in assists (5) and third in points (19). Alonso Basauri has also racked up five assists to rank tied for third with Novicevic in the KCAC, sending quality services in on set pieces.

  • With the depth and quality on offense, fifth year senior Jonathan Rawayo comes in frequently as a super sub. The combination of Patrick Wyatt and Filippo Della Pasqua at center back has been solid, and Wyatt presents a vertical challenge for opposing defenses with two header goals off set pieces. Outside back Owain Parker has shown his willingness to join the attack with two assists so far this season. Zac Wilson is solid defensive presence in the midfield who can also play center back when needed. Captain Jack Hatswell does his thing at central midfield, dictating much of the play for the Braves. Gage Powers has been strong as the Braves last line of defense, leading the KCAC with 51 saves and is fifth with a 71% save percentage.

Up Next: Braves return to AdventHealth Field for two straight home games, hosting York on Oct. 5th and Bethany on Oct. 7th.
