OTTAWA, Kan. – The #7 Ottawa University men's wrestling team took down #17 Baker 26-12 at Wilson Field House on Tuesday night in the opening dual of the 2022-23 season.
Things kicked off at 125lb, with
Diago Hernandez taking a 17-8 major decision in the opening match.
Austin Kolvek started his OU career on the right foot, claiming a victory by fall at 141lbs.
Brandon Kidd Jr. scrapped for a 10-8 decision at 157lbs, while
Jordan Lomeli also had a close 9-6 win by decision at 174.
Dayton Hill pinned Baker's Joey Hancock at 165lbs, while
Benito Hernandez wrapped things up at heavyweight with a 13-4 major decision.
"The fans at Wilson Field House are always awesome," said sophomore
Dayton Hill. "When the crowd brings that kind of energy, it makes you want to match that intensity on the mat. It makes me want to go, go, go and pound on whoever is across from me."
