Biography

Entering his redshirt junior season, Hernandez has an overall record of 42-17. Those 42 victories match his older brother, Benito Hernandez’s career victories. He has a mark of 18-7 in duals and has four falls. Hernandez is a two-time KCAC Champion in two different weight classes (133lb/125lb) and a two-time NAIA National Tournament qualifier.

2022-23: As a redshirt sophomore, Hernandez had a record of 21-9 and qualified for his second straight NAIA National Championships. This time in the 125 pound weight class. At the KCAC Championships, he won the Gregorian Award for most falls in the least amount of time at the Championships. Hernandez was the KCAC Champion at 125 pounds, earning All-KCAC honors. He is ranked sixth in the OU record book for wins by a sophomore (21) and second in single season wins by weight at 125 pounds (20).

2021-22: Hernandez qualified for the NAIA National Championship in the 133lb weight class in his redshirt freshman season. He won the KCAC Championship in the 133lb weight class and earned All-KCAC honors. Hernandez finished the season with a record of 17-7, he had a dual record of 4-2, and finished the season with four falls. He is ranked fourth in the OU record book in single season wins by weight at 133lb with 15.

2020-21: As a freshman, Hernandez finished with a 4-1 record. His four wins at 125lb ties him for 10th in weight class wins at 125lb (4).

High School: Hernandez earned four letters in wrestling at Garden City High School. He was a two-time Kansas State Tournament placer, finishing fifth in 2018 and 2019. Hernandez was a two-time WAC First Team selection and earned a 2019 Regional Championship.

Personal: Son of Benny and Patricia Hernandez ... undecided on a major. His brother, Benito Hernandez was a three-time NAIA National Tournament qualifier, winning the KCAC Championship at 285 in 2022-23.
