TAVARES, Fla. – The Ottawa University women's beach volleyball team is moving on to the AVCA NAIA Gold Championship Bracket. The Braves won their pool, defeating Ave Maria University 3-2 on Thursday afternoon at Hickory Point Beach.
Kaitlyn Haller and
Madison Wampler won their no. 2 pairs match 21-14, 21-18. Alexa Boyla and
Emily Jackson took a 21-18, 24-22 victory in no. 4 pairs. Ottawa's no. 5 pair team of
Ava Taton and
Alison Thornton won their match in three sets, 21-16, 19-21, 15-13.
Taylor Mobley and
Randi Johnson fell 21-18, 21-14 in the no. 1 pairs match. Elli Rodgers and
Asia Cole were defeated 21-14, 21-12 in no. 3 pairs.
Ottawa (6-17) will play in the semifinals of the AVCA NAIA Gold Championship Bracket on Friday at 10am (cst). The Braves will play the winner of the Southeastern/University of Mobile. It is the first time in program history that OU has made it this far in the AVCA Small College Beach Championships.
