SB: #22 Braves Split with Oklahoma Wesleyan

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The (22) Ottawa University softball team split its double header with Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon at the OKWU Softball Complex. The Eagles took game one, 4-3 but the Braves rebounded to take game two, 3-2.

Game One
Oklahoma Wesleyan broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning, taking a 4-0 lead over the Braves. Ottawa cut into the Eagle lead in the top of the fourth.
Allison Kearney singled and then moved to second on a walk by Madison Bunfill. Hannah Copeland hit a three run home run, putting the Braves within 4-3.
In the top of the seventh, Ottawa tried to tie the game. Riley Newbold reached first on a walk, Justyse Rodriguez singled to left and Newbold tried to score. She was tagged out at home and OKWU took the 4-3 victory.

Game Two
Ottawa took the early lead in the top of the first inning. Riley Newbold reached first after being hit by a pitch. She then moved to second on a wild pitch. Justyse Rodriguez sacrificed her over to third, giving the Braves a runner 60 feet from home. Allison Kearney singled up the middle scoring Newbold and Ottawa led 1-0. Madison Bunfill followed that with a double to left, scoring Kearney and the Braves had a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, OKWU cut into the Brave lead with a run, 2-1. In the top of the fifth, the Braves increased its lead over OKWU. Newbold singled and then advanced to third on an error by the OKWU shortstop. Bunfill hit the ball to the Eagle shortstop and Newbold beat the throw home, giving Ottawa a 3-1 lead.
OKWU made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles scored one run and ha d runners on second and third with one out. Amber Flummerfelt buckled down and got the next two batters to fly out and the Braves ended the scoring threat, taking the 3-2 victory.

Ottawa (20-9-1, 10-2) returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 9 on the road in Leavenworth, Kan. against the University of Saint Mary. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
