LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The (22) Ottawa University softball team took two from the University of Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon at the USM Softball Complex. OU has now won 14 straight games against the Spires. The Braves won game one, 6-3, and took game two, 4-0.
Game One
The Braves took the lead in the top of the first inning.
Riley Newbold walked and
Justyse Rodriguez hit a home run, giving OU a 2-0 lead.
USM cut into OU's lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning, 2-1. Ottawa answered with three runs in the top of the third.
Newbold led off the third with a single. She stole second, giving the Braves a runner in scoring position.
Allison Kearney's single moved Newbold to third and the Braves had runners on the corners.
Madison Bunfill scored both a home run, giving OU a 5-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth, the Braves pushed one more run across home plate to take a 6-1 lead. Saint Mary scored one run in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to cut OU's lead to 6-3. OU's defense held the Spires scoreless in the bottom of the seventh and OU took the 6-3 victory.

Game Two
Ottawa broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning. With two outs,
Riley Newbold doubled.
Justyse Rodriguez followed that with a triple, scoring Newbold to give OU a 1-0 lead.
OU increased its lead in the top of the fourth.
Madison Bunfill singled and then moved to second on a
Jillian Kygar single.
Aliks Serna loaded the bases with a single.
Emily Kvasnicka singled, scoring Bunfill and Ottawa led 2-0.
In the top of the sixth, the Braves scored two more runs. Serna reached first after being hit by a pitch. Kvasnicka hit a home run, scoring Serna and the Braves had a 4-0 lead. USM tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, getting two on base but OU's defense shut down the threat and OU took the 4-0 victory.
