Women's Basketball Falls to No. 12 Briar Cliff, 91-60

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team fell 91-60 to no. 12 Briar Cliff University on Thursday evening in Wilson Field House.

The Braves struggled to score the ball in the first quarter. Tootie Allen's basket with 3:53 left in the first quarter was OU's first basket of the game and put the Braves within 8-3.

OU then went on an 8-1 run and took its first lead of the game, 11-9, on two Jayla Johnson free throws at the 1:14 mark in the first quarter. Briar Cliff, however, outscored OU 5-3 in the final minute of to take a 15-14 lead into the second.

The Chargers opened the second quarter on a 16-2 run, taking a 31-16 lead over the Braves. Ottawa cut into the Briar Cliff lead and were within 38-30 with 1:27 left in the half after an old fashioned 3-pt play by Abby Dietsche. BCU  was able to push its lead back to double figures and led 43-32 at the half.

In the third quarter, BCU heated up from the floor. OU, however, was not able to answer. The Braves only scored nine points in the quarter and the Chargers took a 66-41 lead into the fourth.
In the final quarter of play, Ottawa was not able to cut into the Charger lead and BCU took the 91-60 victory.

  • Ottawa shot 30.9 percent from the floor, 31.6 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 63.2 percent from the free throw line.
  • Tootie Allen came off the bench to score 13 points.
  • Abby Dietsche and Jayla Johnson led the Braves with six rebounds apiece.
  • Johnson also led OU in assists with three.
  • Katelyn Alatini finished with a team high three steals.

The Braves (2-1) open KCAC play on Wednesday, Nov. 15 in Wilson Field House against Sterling College. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
