Women's Basketball Stifles Baker, 59-50

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team defeated Baker University 59-50 on Tuesday afternoon in Wilson Field House. The Brave defense forced 27 BU turnovers, scoring 27 points off those turnovers. OU snapped its six game losing to Baker and it's the Braves first win over the Wildcats since Nov. 15, 2013. It is also OU's first win over the Wildcats in Wilson Field House since Nov. 11, 2011.

Ottawa's full court pressure forced eight first quarter turnovers. The Braves were 6-for-6 from the free throw line in that quarter and took a 19-11 lead into the second.

Baker scored the first six points of the second quarter, getting within 19-17. A basket by Nayeli Acosta and a three from Janiyah Hendricks pushed the Brave lead to seven points, 24-17. The Wildcats cut into OU's lead and were within three points, 24-21, with 4:04 remaining in the half. OU's defense held the Wildcats to one point for the remainder of the second quarter, taking a 28-22 lead into the locker room.

OU struggled from the floor in the third quarter, only scoring nine points and shooting 17 percent from the floor. Baker responded by cutting into the Brave lead and Ottawa led 37-35 at the start of the fourth.

The Wildcats scored the first six points of the fourth quarter, taking a 41-37 lead over the Braves. A 3-pt field goal by Hendricks cut the deficit to 41-40 at the 6:11 mark. Ottawa retook the lead less than a minute later on two Hendricks free throws, 42-41. The Braves ended the game on a 17-9 run, taking the 59-50 victory.
