VICTORIA, Texas – The Ottawa University baseball team split its double header with the University of Houston-Victoria on Friday afternoon at Riverside Stadium. Ottawa won game one, 5-1 but fell in game two, 3-2.
Game One
In the top of the fifth, Brandon Kelly hit a pinch hit double to left to score
Gabe Eckstaine to give OU its first lead of the game, 1-0. Ottawa extended its lead with a triple by
Jonah Weisner. His hit scored
Tyler Farnham and
Zachary Spradlin to give OU a 3-0 lead.
Ottawa scored another run in the top of the sixth. The Braves took advantage of a Jaguar miscue. Spradlin reached first on an error by the UHV third baseman.
Luis DeLeon scored, giving OU a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh,
Cole Broughton recorded his 12
th RBI of the season with his single to right. Weisner crossed home plate and OU had a 5-0 lead.
The Jaguars scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to cut into the Brave lead but OU relief pitcher
Eric Reece got the final UHV batter to ground out, giving the Braves the 5-1 victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Jacob Weisner and Cole Broughton led OU with two hits apiece. Weisner had two RBI.
- Tyler Bryant earned his first victory of the season, only allowing two hits on 101 pitches. He struck out six.
Game Two
The Jaguars took a 2-0 lead over the Braves in the bottom of the third inning. UHV added one more run in the bottom of the fifth to increase its lead to 3-0
Ottawa cut into the lead in the top of the seventh.
Lukas Rich singled to right, scoring
Jonah Weisner and
Tyler Farnham to get the Braves within 3-2. OU was not able to complete the come back and UHV took the 3-2 victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Brandon Kelly continued with his hot bat. As the Brave DH, Kelly went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Tyler Farnham was the other Brave with two hits.
- Lukas Rich led OU with two RBI.
- Ryan Olchoway pitched in six innings, striking out three.
