LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's tennis team defeated Baker University 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Genesis. The Braves won the doubles point, 2-1 and took singles with a record of 5-1.
Ottawa's no. 2 doubles team of
Isidora Hrnjak and
Alejandra Parra won their match over Cambrie Frame and Ciarra McWilliams 6-0 to tie the doubles score at 1-1.
Paula Persson and
Priyanshi Sharma won their no. 1 doubles match, 6-2, over Dayna Steadman and Carol Porto to take the doubles point, 2-1.
Lily Keimig won her no. 5 singles match 7-5, 6-1 over Clare Langfoss to give the Braves a 2-1 lead over Baker.
Alejandra Parra took a 6-0, 6-0 victory in no. 4 singles over McWilliams and Ottawa led 3-1. Ottawa clinched the match with Hrnjak's win in no. 1 singles over Steadman, 6-2, 6-0, 4-1. Sharma won her no. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-1 over Carol Porto. Persson defeated Frame 6-2, 6-0 in no. 3 singles.
Ottawa (3-1) returns to the court on Thursday, March 9 against Maryville University, head coach
Dony McKnight's alma mater, in St. Louis, Mo. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
