Braves are Defeated by Uni. of Houston-Victoria, 10-7

VICTORIA, Texas – The Ottawa University baseball team fell 10-7 to the University of Houston-Victoria on Thursday evening at Riverside Stadium.

Cole Broughton gave the Braves the lead into the top of the first inning with his lead off home run. The Jaguars answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, taking a 3-1 lead over the Braves.

In the top of the third, Ottawa tied the game. Zachary Spadlin led off with a double to right. Broughton hit his second home run of the game to tie the contest, 3-3.

UHV broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on four hits and one error, to take a 10-3 lead. The Braves cut into the Jarguar lead in the top of the sixth.

With Lukas Rich on second and Luis Deleon on first, Liam Vulcano singled to left, scoring Rich and Ottawa was within 10-4. Connor Jeffers followed that with a triple to right. That hit scored both DeLeon and Vulcano to cut the deficit to 10-6.

The Braves scored one more run in the top of the ninth on a Broughton RBI single to center. His hit scored Spadlin and OU trailed 10-7. Ottawa was not able to complete the comeback and UHV took the 10-7 victory.
