OTTAWA, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University men's lacrosse team came away with a 21-7 win in the season opener over Missouri Valley on Thursday evening at AdventHealth Field.
The Braves jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the first quarter, with two goals apiece coming from
Ethan NewMyer and
Jake Noernberg.
Vincent DeMarco scored the last goal of the first quarter to make the score 5-0, his first of seven goals on the evening. DeMarco scored three more goals in the second, while Noernburg and
Reid McDowell added two each in the period. The Braves cruised into halftime with a 12-1 lead.
The Vikings closed the gap, but not by much, outscoring Ottawa 4-3 in the third period to make the score 15-5 heading into the final quarter. Plenty of other Braves got into the action in the fourth period, with
Luke Spells,
Jack Brackin, and
Dakota Lepker all getting on the board. The Braves outscored the Vikings 6-2 in the final period, with the final score ending at 21-7.
Inside the Numbers
Demarco led all Braves with 11 points following seven goals and four assists.
Reid McDowell had a heck of a first game in a Braves uniform, tallying four goals and two assists for six points. Noernberg also had four goals and two assists.
Jacob Vincentini did his thing at FOGO, going 23-26 in the faceoff circle and snagging 18 ground balls. OU goalkeeper
Jake Christopherson made 10 saves on the evening.
