OTTAWA, Kan. - The Ottawa men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a hard-fought 16-13 victory over William Penn University on Wednesday evening at AdventHealth Field.
The Braves got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 7-2 lead after the first quarter. Robert Roseberry led the way for Ottawa with six goals on the night, while Vincent DeMarco and Jake Noernberg each added three goals and two assists. Reid McDowell and Ethan NewMyer also chipped in with one goal apiece.
Despite the early deficit, William Penn battled back and closed the gap to 13-10 after three quarters. Wyatt Christensen led the way for the Statesmen with four goals, while Breck Putzier added three goals and Nate Blasingame chipped in with two goals. Boston Romero, Brady Treloar, Jeff Kohl, and Kenny Bohney each added one goal apiece.
In the fourth quarter, Ottawa was able to hold off the Statesmen's comeback attempt and secure the victory. Ottawa goalkeeper Adam Fletcher made several key saves down the stretch to preserve the win.
The win moves Ottawa to 2-0 on the season, while William Penn falls to 5-4. Ottawa returns to action on Saturday, March 11, when they travel to face the University of Cumberlands.
