OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team fell 3-2 to Avila University on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Park.
Ottawa struck first, taking the lead in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs,
Cole Broughton tripled to center.
Brandon Kelley singled to center, scoring Broughton to give OU a 1-0 lead.
Avila responded with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.
That is where the score stayed until the bottom of the eighth when the Braves cut into the Eagle lead.
Jonah Weisner led off OU with a walk.
Tyler Farnham reached first with a fielder's choice. Weiser was able to reach second with a wild throw by the AU third baseman.
A wild pitch moved Weiser to third and Farnham to second. Broughton scored Weiser with a sacrifice fly to center and OU was within, 3-2.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Zachary Spradlin hit a pinch hit single to right. He then stole second and OU had the tying run in scoring position. The Braves were not able to get Spradlin home as the Eagles took the game, 3-2.
