Ottawa, Kan. - The (RV)Ottawa lacrosse team defeated (RV)Columbia 14-9 in a thrilling game on Saturday afternoon. Ottawa improves their record to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Columbia falls to 3-3 overall.
Columbia started the game strong with early goals by John Thomas and Ethan Houston to take a 2-0 lead. Ottawa responded with three consecutive goals from Luke Spells, Robert Roseberry, and Vincent DeMarco to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Columbia's Tyler Parrott and Kellen Brechbill scored to tie the game at 3-3 and 4-4 respectively, but Ottawa's offense exploded with four unanswered goals from Roseberry, William Carroll, DeMarco, and Ethan NewMyer to take a commanding 7-4 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Reid McDowell and Dakota Lepker scored for Ottawa, while Parrott scored for Columbia to make it 9-5 in favor of Ottawa heading into the final quarter.
Columbia showed some fight in the fourth quarter with goals from Parrott, Derek Howard, and Brechbill, but Ottawa continued to pour it on with goals from McDowell, Spells, DeMarco, Roseberry, and Jake Noernberg to secure the 14-9 victory.
DeMarco led the way for Ottawa with four goals, while Roseberry and Spells each contributed three goals. Jacob Vincentini dominated in the faceoff circle, going 14-20. Parrott led Columbia with four goals of his own.
