Baseball Takes Game 3 Vs. York, 14-6

YORK, Neb. – The Ottawa University baseball team took the series, 3-0, against York University with a 14-6 game three victory on Sunday afternoon at Levitt Stadium.

Ottawa struck first, taking the lead in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Luis DeLeon walked. Gabe Eckstaine doubled down the left field line, scoring DeLeon and OU led 1-0. Liam Vulcano followed that double with one of his own, scoring Eckstaine to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.

York responded with two runs in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead over OU. Ottawa retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning.

With one on, Eckstaine hit a home run to right and the Braves tied the game, 4-4. Luis Vulcano walked and then moved to third with a single to right by Tyler Farnham. Cole Broughton scored Vulcano from third with a ground out and Ottawa retook the lead, 5-4.

The Braves increased their lead in the top of the fifth. Walks by Nicholas Sizemore and Robby Williams lead off the top of the fifth for OU. DeLeon's fly out to center moved both runners 90 feet closer to home. Ottawa loaded the bases with an Eckstaine walk. Vulcano came through with runners in scoring position, hitting a single to right and scoring two to give OU a 7-4 lead.

In the sixth inning, Ottawa pushed three more runs across home plate. Cole Broughton scored on a wild pitch, giving OU an 8-4 lead. The Braves scored two more runs on a Williams home run and OU had a 10-4 lead.

York cut into the Brave lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, 10-6. After a scoreless eighth inning by both teams, Ottawa scored four more runs in the top of the ninth.

Ottawa started off the inning with walks by DeLeon and Eckstaine. A wild pitch moved Brad Grant, who was pinch running for DeLeon, to third and Eckstaine to second. Vulcano scored Grant with a sacrifice fly to left and OU had an 11-6 lead.

Farnham scored Eckstaine with a single to left-center, giving OU a 12-6 lead. Zachary Spradlin drove in the final two runs for the Braves with a double to center and Ottawa took the lead and the game, 14-6.
