OTTAWA, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University women's tennis team captured the program's first KCAC Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 victory over McPherson College at the Kossover Tennis Center. OU took the doubles point, 1-0 and had a record of 3-3 in singles.
McPherson took a 1-0 lead in doubles.
Priyanshi Sharma and Paula Perrson fell 6-2 to Vanessa Hofer and Camila Sanchez in no. 2 doubles. Ottawa tied doubles, 1-1, with
Isidora Hrnjak and
Lily Keimig's 6-4 victory over Kayla Ortiz and Maddiosn Dobson in no. 3 doubles. The Braves took the doubles point with their win in no. 1 doubles. Mariam Alli-Bologun and
Alejandra Parra defeated Grace Maxey and Kendra Maples, 7-5.
The Bulldogs tied the match, 1-1, with a win in no. 4 singles. Persson fell 6-3, 6-2, to Maples. Ottawa retook the lead with Sharma's 6-2 6-3 win in no. 2 singles over Maxey, 2-1. Ottawa extended its lead to 3-1 over the Bulldogs. Alli-Bologun defeated Hofer 6-2, 7-5 in no. 3 singles. Keimig fell in her no. 6 singles match to Dobson 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) and Ottawa's lead was cut to 3-2. The Bulldogs tied the match with their victory in no. 1 singles. Hrnjak fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to Sanchez and the contest was tied 3-3. The Braves took the match with Parra's 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win over Ortiz in no. 5 singles, 4-3, giving OU the 2023 KCAC Tournament Championship.
The Braves (14-3) will now compete in the program's first NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships, May 16-20 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
