Baseball is Defeated by No. 1 Southeastern, 5-3

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Ottawa University baseball team fell 5-3 to no. 1 Southeastern University on Friday afternoon at Ted A. Broer Stadium.

The Braves took the early lead in the top of the first inning. Blake Thomas hit OU's first home run of 2024 with a shot over the left field fence, giving Ottawa the 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Ottawa increased its lead over the Fire. With two out, Nicholas Sizemore doubled to left and Brandon Kelley came in as a courtesy runner. Tyler Farnham reached first on a throwing error by the SEU pitcher. Kelley was able to score, giving OU a 2-0 lead.

Southeastern answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth taking the 3-2 lead. The Fire pushed two more runs across home plate in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 5-2.

That is where the score stayed until the top of the ninth. Pedro Astacio hit a home run to right field, cutting the deficit to 5-3. Ottawa was not able complete the rally, falling to the Fire, 5-3.
