Football Finishes Season with Loss to Tabor, 20-7

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Ottawa University football team ended the season with a 20-7 loss to Tabor College on Saturday afternoon.

On OU's first offensive possession, the Braves were forced to punt. The punt went nine yards backward to the Ottawa one yard line and Tabor took over. One play later the Bluejays had the lead. Tabor scored on a Wille Green one yard touchdown run. The extra point kick was blocked by Preston Greenwood and TC led 6-0.

The Ottawa offense turned the ball over on its second offensive possession of the game and Tabor took over on the Brave 28 yard line. The Bluejays extended their lead over the Braves on the fifth play of the drive. TC went for two but the Braves held and Tabor led 12-0 with 5:30 to go in the first quarter.

Neither team scored for the rest of the first half. OU had an opportunity with 1:12 left in the second quarter to cut into the Tabor lead. The OU defense held, forcing the Bluejays to turn the ball over on downs and the Braves had the ball on its own 41 yard line. Ottawa moved the ball to the Tabor 30 yard line with 23 seconds remaining in the first half. On fourth down, the Braves went for it. The pass was incomplete and OU turned the ball over on downs. Tabor ran out the clock and the Bluejays took a 12-0 lead into the locker room.  

After a scoreless third quarter by both teams, the Braves cut into Tabor's lead in the fourth. Ottawa put together a 17 play, 80 yard scoring drive. Taylor Eggers ended the drive with an 18 yard touchdown pass to Keavian Long. The Ethan Yinger extra point kick was good and with 11:05 left in the game, OU trailed 12-7.

Tabor answered OU's score with one of its own. The Bluejays had an 11 play, 69 yard drive that ended in a Green seven yard touchdown pass to Kobie Sheriff. Tabor converted a two point conversion and with 3:20 remaining in the game, the Bluejays led 20-7.

The Braves were not able to respond. On their second play of the drive, the pass was intercepted, and Tabor took over with 2:48 left in the game. The Bluejays ran out the clock, taking the 20-7 victory.

  • Ottawa finished the game with 140 yards of offense, 151 yards passing, and (-) 11 yards rushing. Tabor had 127 yards passing and 100 yards rushing for a total of 227 yards of offense.
  • Taylor Eggers was 15-for-31 through the air for 151 yards and one touchdown. He also threw two interceptions.
  • Hagan Johnson had six rushes for nine yards.
  • De'Anthony Curtis finished the game with eight receptions for 93 yards.
  • AJ Hemphill led OU with 10 tackles. He had one tackle for loss.
  • Ethan Fuentes and Payton Green finished the game with seven tackles apiece. Fuentes had one sack and 3.5 tackles for loss.
The Braves finish the season with an overall record of 1-10 and a KCAC Bissell Division mark of 1-4.
