(17) Softball Downs Concordia

OTTAWA, Kan. – The (17) Ottawa University softball team has opened its season with six straight victories after a two game sweep of Concordia University on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park. Ottawa won game one, 8-0, in six innings and game two, 10-2, in five innings.

Game One

Ottawa jumped out to the early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Addison Spencer doubled to left and then moved to third on an error. Katie Enneking's single to center scored Spencer and OU had a 1-0 lead. Kara Hafenstine followed that with a single to center, moving Enneking to second. Both runners moved up one base on a throwing error by the Bulldogs. Reagan Hammons cleared the bases with a three run shot to left on a 2-2 count and OU had a 4-0 lead.

The Braves pushed two more runs across home plate in the bottom of the fifth. Macy Roever singled to center and then swiped second. Addison Spencer reached first on a CU throwing error. Roever took advantage of the Bulldog miscue and scored from second to give OU a 5-0 lead. Enneking moved Spencer to second with a sacrifice bunt. Kara Hafenstine's ground out to first put Spencer 60 feet from home. Spencer was able to score on a wild throw by the CU first baseman and the Braves led 6-0.

Ottawa was able to end the game an inning early by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cierra Faubion doubled to left, bringing in CaiLyn Nye as a pinch runner. Megan Kennedy tripled to right, scoring Nye to give Ottawa a 7-0 lead. After a CU pitching change, Macey Morris scored Kennedy from third with a bunt single and OU took the 8-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two

Concordia took an early lead with two runs in the top of the second inning. Ottawa answered with eight runs in their bottom half of the inning.

Nayely Delgado was hit by a pitch to lead things off for the Braves. Walks by Cierra Faubion and Megan Kennedy loaded the bases. A wild pitch by the Bulldog pitcher scored Delgado, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Macy Roever walked and scored Faubion to tie the game at 2-2.

After a Bulldog pitching change, Katie Enneking singled to left. Her hit scored Kennedy and Roever to give the Braves a 4-2 lead. Ottawa increased its lead to 5-2 on Reagan Hammons' infield single. Delgado's single to left scored two and OU had a 7-2 lead. Faubion singled to center, loading the bases for the Braves. Kennedy walked, scoring Hammons and the Braves had an 8-2 lead.

The Braves were able to extend their lead in the bottom of the third. Spencer reached first on a wild throw by the CU shortstop. Enneking moved her to third with an infield single. Kara Hafenstine's sacrifice fly to left scored Spencer and OU led 9-2.

Ottawa scored one more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-2 lead over Concordia. Delgado singled to left, bringing in Macey Morris as a pinch runner. Faubion singled to left, moving Morris to second. Morris scored on a ground out by Kennedy, and the Braves led 10-2.

It was three up and three down for the OU defense in the top of the fifth and the Braves took the 10-2 victory.

Ottawa (6-0) returns to the diamond on Monday, February 12 against (RV) Bellevue University at Alumni Park. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
