(17) Softball Splits with (RV) Bellevue

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OTTAWA, Kan. – The (17) Ottawa University softball team split with (RV) Bellevue University on Monday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves took game one, 3-2. Bellevue won game two, 5-3.

Game One

Ottawa took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Katie Enneking singled to center. Kara Hafenstine followed that with a double to left. Her hit scored Enneking and OU had a 1-0 lead.

The Braves pushed two more runs across home plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. Macy Roever singled to center and then stole second. Addison Spencer singled to left, moving Roever to third. Enneking scored Roever from third with a ground out to second. Hafenstine's sacrifice fly to left scored Spencer, giving OU a 3-0 lead.

Bellevue tried to rally in the top of the seventh innings. The Braves got the first two Bruins out. Bellevue then reeled off three straight hits and scored two runs. Loralei Gilbert got the final Bruin to ground out and OU took the 3-2 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two

In the top of the third inning, Bellevue scored four runs to take the lead. The Bruins pushed one more run across home plate in the top of the fifth to take the 5-0 lead.

Ottawa cut into the BU lead in the bottom of the fifth. Megan Kennedy reached first on catchers' interference. Rachel Pederson reached first on an error by the Bruins, moving Kennedy to third.

After a Bruin pitching change, Addison Spencer singled to right and Kennedy scored to put OU within 5-1. Enneking walked, loading the bases. Kara Hafenstine's walk scored Pederson and Ottawa had cut the deficit to 5-2. A third straight walk, this one by Reagan Hammons, scored Spencer and OU was down 5-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hafenstine was able to reach first on an error by the Bruin left fielder. Ottawa was not able to score her, and Bellevue took the 5-3 victory.

Ottawa (7-1) is back in action with  four games in Texas. Ottawa will play Texas Wesleyan on Friday, Feb. 16 in Fort Worth, Texas. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Braves will then play the University of Texas Dallas on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Dallas, Texas. Game one of the double header is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
