LAMONI, Iowa – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team earned its second win of the season with a 3-1; 25-13, 25-23, 15-25, 25-16; victory over Graceland University on Tuesday night.
How it Happened
- The Braves took an 8-2 lead over the Yellowjackets in set no. 1. A kill by Grant Younie and a block by Tim Schutzbach gave OU a 10-3 lead. Ottawa built its lead to 18-10 on a kill by Akeil Williams and an attacking error by GU. The Braves held the Yellowjackets in check for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-13 victory.
- Graceland took the early lead in set two and led 8-5. The Braves rallied, scoring the next five points and after a Younie kill, Ottawa had the 10-8 advantage. A Yellowjacket service error and a kill by Max Baumann gave the Braves a 16-13 lead. Graceland rallied and tied the set at 20 all. OU scored the next two points, taking a 22-20 lead on a kill by Andrew Salinas. GU responded by tying the set at 22-22. The teams exchanged points and the set was tied 23-23. After a Brave timeout, a kill by Williams gave OU a 24-23 lead. Graceland called a time out. It did not slow down OU. Ottawa took the set on the next point, 25-23.
- With Graceland holding 6-4 lead in set three, the Yellowjacket went on a 6-1 run and led 12-5. Ottawa tried to rally and after a kill by Younie, the Braves were within 16-13. OU, however, was not able to complete the comeback and Graceland took the 25-15 victory.
- The teams exchanged points at the start of set four with Graceland tying the set at 9-9. The Braves responded with an 8-1 run, taking the lead 17-10 on a kill by Younie. Ottawa pushed its lead to 19-11 on a GU service error and a kill by Baumann. The Yellowjacks tried to cut into OU's lead and were within 21-16. The Braves answered by scoring the final four points of the set, taking the 25-16 victory on a block by Younie.
