Women's Lacrosse Opens Season With Away and Neutral Site Games

Ottawa, Kan.- The Ottawa women's lacrosse team begins their 2024 season with a pair of games- at Benedictine on Saturday, and against Quincy at Missouri Western on Sunday.
Benedictine Notes
  • The Braves are coming off an 8-5 season, which ended with a loss to Missouri Baptist in the KCAC Tournament championship.
  • Key returners for Ottawa are KCAC Second-Teamer Ashley Santillan and 2023 KCAC Offensive Player of the Year Mackenzie Simmons.
  • Benedictine opens their season with this game as well. The Ravens finished 10-4 last year, going 5-0 in Heart of America play and winning the Heart of America Tournament. Their season ended in the NAIA Tournament quarterfinals with a loss to Keiser, the top seed.
  • Benedictine returns two All-Americans, Kaylen Moore and Gemma Weinberg. Moore was also named Heart Offensive & Defensive Players of the Year as well as Freshman of the Year. The Ravens return four additional All-Heart players from that season.
  • This will be the 14th meeting between Ottawa and Benedictine. The two teams last played in 2023 in Ottawa, which saw the then-top ranked Ravens win 20-7. Benedictine leads the series 12-1, and Ottawa's only win came in 2017 by a score of 10-9.
  • This will not be the final meeting between the two teams this year. They will meet again on March 18 in Ottawa.
Quincy Notes
  • Quincy has played two games this season, both road games. Their season opener was a 12-10 win over Concordia-St. Paul, and they followed that with a 4-17 loss at the hands of Northern Michigan.
  • Quincy has four multiple goal scorers, but their leading scorers are Patricia Chavira and Danielle Robinson with four goals each. Chavira and Amelia Ham are the joint-assists leaders with two each.
  • The game against Ottawa will not be Quincy's only game on Sunday. They take on 2-0 Missouri Western at noon for game one of the doubleheader.
  • Ottawa and Quincy have played twice before, both going the way of the Hawks. Last season's matchup was a 22-12 home win for Quincy.
