OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team won its third straight match, defeating Kansas Wesleyan University 3-0; 25-12, 25-16, 25-18; on Saturday afternoon in Wilson Field House.
Akeil Williams set a school record for single match attacking percentage. He hit .882 in the win, breaking the record that was set by OU head coach
Ashan Jordan (.867).
How it Happened
- The Braves raced out to the early lead over the Coyotes in set no. 1. A kill by Akeil Williams gave OU an 8-1 lead. Two kills by Grant Younie and a kill from Francis Rivera increased the OU lead to 14-4. KWU never threatened and the Braves took the 25-12 victory.
- Kills by Williams, Rivera, and Younie gave the Braves a 6-2 lead over KWU in set two. The Coyotes rallied and cut the Brave lead to 12-11. Ottawa answered with a 11-2 run, taking a 23-13 lead on a Rivera kill. The Coyotes scored the next two points, cutting the Brave lead to 23-15. Ottawa closed out the set by scoring the final two points, taking the 25-16 victory on a Williams' kill.
- Ottawa opened set three with a 5-0 lead over Kansas Wesleyan. A kill by Williams and a Zrna service ace gave the Braves a 12-1 lead over the Coyotes. KWU was not able to recover from its slow start and OU took the 25-18 victory.
