KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Ottawa University baseball team fell 8-3 to Avila University at The Z on Friday afternoon.
Avila took a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the bottom of the third inning. Ottawa answered in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back walks by
Anthony Soria and
Tyler Farnham gave OU runners on first and second. A wild pitch moved Soria to third and Farnham to second.
Cole Broughton singled to right, scoring Soria to tie the game, 1-1. Ottawa took the lead on
Brent Swearingen's infield single. That hit scored Farnham, giving the Braves a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Avila retook the lead, 3-2. Ottawa tied the game in the top of the seventh.
Johnny Vulcano singled up the middle and then moved to second with walk by
Jaquavius Davis. Soria followed that with a double to left center, scoring Vulcano to tie the game at 3-3.
Avila responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and three in the bottom of the eighth to take an 8-3 lead. The Braves were not able to rally in the top of the ninth and Avila took the 8-3 victory.

Ottawa (10-8, 4-3) returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 2 to finish its series with Avila. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
