Box Score 2 KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Ottawa University baseball team was defeated in its final two games of its series against Avila University on Saturday afternoon at The Z. Ottawa was defeated 7-6 in 10 innings in game one and fell 6-0 to the Eagles in game two.
Game One
The Braves took the lead in the top of the first inning.
Brent Swearingen hit an infield single to third base.
Jackson Alaniz put the ball in play, moving Swearingen to third. Swearingen then took advantage of a throwing error by the AU catcher and scored, giving OU a 1-0 lead.
Ottawa pushed two more runs across home plate in the top of the second.
Blaine Thomas singled to left and then swiped second.
Tyler Farnham singled to right, scoring Thomas and OU led 2-0.
Cole Broughton's single to center moved Farnham 90 feet from home. Broughton then stole second and the AU catcher threw down. His throw was wild and Swearingen scored, increasing the OU lead to 3-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Avila cut into OU's lead, 3-1. The Braves earned that run back in the top of the seventh.
Tyler Farnham walked and then stole second, giving Ottawa a runner in scoring position. Swearingen's single to left scored Farnham and OU led 4-1.
The Braves scored another run in the top of the eighth inning. The Braves took advantage of an Eagle throwing error and OU took a 5-1 lead.
Avila rallied, scoring one run in the bottom of the eighth and three in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game 5-5. In the top of the 10
th, the Braves retook the lead.
Liam Vulcano, pinch hitting for
Anthony Soria, walked.
Tyler Farnham's ground out to second, moved Vulcano to second. Broughton scored Vulcano with a double down the left field line and the Braves and a 6-5 lead.
The Eagles rallied once more and in the bottom of the 10
th scored two runs to take the 7-6 victory.

Avila scored one run in the bottom of the first, two in the bottom of the second, one in the bottom in the third, one in the bottom of the fourth, and one in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and the game, 6-0.
