(23) Softball Takes Game Two in the Double Header With McPherson

OTTAWA, Kan. – The (23) Ottawa University softball team split with McPherson College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park. McPherson won game one, 2-1, in nine innings and the Braves took game two, 13-0, in five innings.

Game One
McPherson struck first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the top of the second inning. The Braves were able to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Megan Kennedy singled to left. Macey Morris' sacrifice bunt moved Kennedy to second. Addison Spencer's infield single put Kennedy on third. Kennedy then scored on the throw and the game was tied 1-1.

The score stayed 1-1 until the top of the ninth inning. McPherson scored on an error by the Braves, taking a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Ottawa was not able to score Katie Enneking from second and the Bulldogs took the 2-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
The Braves had an offensive explosion in game two, scoring 13 runs on 12 hits. Ottawa scored four runs on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead over McPherson.

In the third inning, the Braves loaded the bases and Rachel Pederson reached first on a walk. Her walk scored Reagan Hammons, giving OU a 5-0 lead. Macy Roever's single to center scored both Nayely Delgado and Morgan Bradford and OU led 7-0.

Ottawa pushed six more runs across home plate in the bottom of the fourth. OU scored six runs on six hits and took the lead and the game, 13-0.

Inside the Box Score
  • Macy Roever went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in five runs and scoring twice.
  • Reagan Hammons had two hits in three at bats. She had three RBI and scored twice.
  • Takiya Hill pitched five innings, striking out two.

Ottawa (19-9, 3-1) returns to the diamond on Wednesday, March 20 against Evangel University at Alumni Park. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
