SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Ottawa University baseball team completed the sweep of Evangel University on Saturday afternoon defeating the Valor 8-5 in game one and 6-0 in game two of the double header. The Braves are now on a five game winning streak.
Game One
Ottawa struck first, taking the lead in the top of the first inning.
Jeremy Freeman, Jr. doubled to left center.
Cole Broughton moved him 90 feet from home with a ground out. A miscue by the Valor catcher scored Freeman, giving the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Evangel answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 2-1 lead over the Braves. Ottawa earned that run back in the top of the second. Ottawa loaded the bases with walks from
Anthony Soria,
Tyler Farnham, and Freeman. Broughton scored Soria with a sacrifice fly and the Braves tied the game, 2-2.
In the top of the third, the Braves retook the lead.
Johnny Vulcano and
Nicholas Sizemore walked. A wild pitch moved Vulcano to third and
Jaquavius Davis, who entered the game as a courtesy runner for Sizemore, to second. After an EU pitching change,
Liam Vulcano's bunt single scored
Johnny Vulcano and OU had a 3-2 lead.
Blaine Thomas scored Davis with a bunt single and OU led 4-2.
The Braves increased their lead over the Valor in the top of the fourth. Farnham doubled down the right field line and then moved to third on a balk. Freeman's single to left scored Farnham and Ottawa had a 5-2 lead.
After a scoreless fifth, sixth, and seventh inning by both teams, Ottawa pushed another run across home plate in the eighth. Freeman hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Thomas to give OU a 6-2 lead.
Ottawa scored two more runs in the top of the ninth.
Johnny Vulcano doubled to left and moved to third on a single by Sizemore.
Marcellus Pearsons's single up the middle scored Vulcano and Davis, who was in as a courtesy runner for Sizemore, giving OU an 8-2 lead.
Evangel tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth. The Valor scored three runs but that was all the closer they were able to get to the Braves as OU too, the 8-5 victory.

Game Two
The Braves broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the fourth inning.
Johnny Vulcano walked and moved to second with a single to right by
Jackson Alaniz.
Marcellus Pearson's single moved Vulcano to third but an error by the EU center fielder scored Vulcano and OU led 1-0.
Ottawa increased its lead over the Valor in the top of the fifth inning.
Anthony Soria walked and moved to second with a ground out by
Tyler Farnham. A double by
Nicholas Sizemore scored Soria and OU led 2-0.
Cole Broughton's single to center scored Sizemore, giving OU a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Ottawa scored three more runs to take the lead and the game 6-0.
