MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team fell 5-4 to McPherson College on Wednesday afternoon at Bulldog Park.
McPherson struck first, taking a 2-0 lead over the Braves in the bottom of the second inning.
In the top of the sixth, Ottawa loaded the bases but was not able to score. McPherson answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 4-0 lead.
Ottawa cut into the McPherson lead in the top of the seventh.
Jackson Alaniz was hit by a pitch,
Blaine Thomas walked, and
Brandon Kelley walked to load the bases for the Braves.
Tyler Farnham was hit by a pitch, scoring Alaniz and Ottawa trailed 4-1.
Nicholas Sizemore singled to center, scoring Thomas and Ottawa was within 4-2.
The Braves pushed another run across home plate in the top of the eighth. Thomas singled to center, scoring Donnie Rhyne and the Braves were down 4-3. In the top of the ninth, with two outs, Ottawa tied the game.
Cole Broughton doubled to center.
Dylan Garcia scored him with a single to center, tying the game at four all.
In the bottom of the ninth, McPherson loaded the bases. Kainoa Torres walked and the winning run crossed home plate, giving the Bulldogs the 5-4 victory.
