MARSHALL, Mo. – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team fell 3-1; 19-25, 31-29, 13-25, 20-25; on Tuesday night. A couple of Braves put their name in the OU single match record book.
Akeil Williams' 35 kills are tied for the fourth most in program history, his 78 attempts are the second most in program history, his 38 points are tied for fourth in program history and second in points in a four set match.
Nazmi Bayoglu's 19 digs are tied for the eighth most in program history and tied for the third most in digs in a four set match.
How it Happened
- Ottawa scored the first three points of set no. 1 to take the early lead. A kill by Akeil Williams and a block from Tim Schutzbach gave OU a 7-2 lead. MVC rallied, scoring eight straight to take a 10-7 lead. The Viking increased their lead to 18-11. Ottawa chipped away at the deficit and after a kill by Salinas, OU was within 18-16. That is all the closer the Braves were able to get as MVC closed out the set, taking the 25-19 victory.
- OU opened set two with a 5-1 run. Missouri Valley rallied, taking a 10-8 lead over the Braves. Ottawa answered with a run, 12-5, taking a 20-15 lead on a Williams kill. The Vikings rallied, retaking the lead 24-23. Ottawa scored the next two points, kills by Williams, to take the lead, 25-24. The teams exchanged points and OU led 30-29. The Braves were able to finish the set and won the next point on a Kade Zrna kill, 31-29.
- The Braves fell behind 11-6 in set three. Missouri Valley extended its lead to 16-8. Ottawa was not able to rally and MVC took a 25-13 victory.
- Missouri Valley led for most of set four. Trailing 24-17, Ottawa scored three straight points to get within 24-20. MVC was able to end OU's rally on the next point and took set four 25-20.
