SALINA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team fell 3-2; 36-34, 17-25, 25-12, 19-25, 12-15; to Kansas Wesleyan University on Friday evening in Mabee Arena. The Braves broke the school record for team attack attempts (204), team digs (93), and
Akeil Williams set a new school record for attack attempts (89).
How it Happened
- Ottawa trailed for most of set no. 1 but rallied, taking a 34-33 lead over the Coyotes. KWU tied the set on the next point, 34-34. OU answered by taking the set on two straight KWU attacking errors, 36-34.
- In set two, kills by Akeil Williams and Kade Zrna gave OU a 5-4 lead. KWU scored the next five points, taking a 9-5 lead over the Braves. Ottawa chipped away at the Coyote lead and after a KWU attacking error, OU trailed 14-12. That would be all the closer the Braves would get as KWU took set two, 25-17.
- The Braves scored the first three points of set no. 3 and built its lead to 18-11 after a kill by Tim Schutzbach. Ottawa held the Coyotes to one point for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-12 victory.
- Ottawa fell behind 8-3 in set no. 4. The Braves were not able to recover from slow start and KWU took the 25-19 victory.
- In set five, the Braves had the 8-6 lead after a Coyote attacking error. Kansas Wesleyan scored the next three points, taking a 9-8 lead over the Braves. A KWU attacking error and kills by Max Baumann and Kadeem Morris gave the Braves an 11-9 lead. Ottawa was not able to close out the set. KWU finished the match on a 6-1 run, taking the 15-12 victory.
