WICHITA, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team won the season series with Friends University, 3-0, after taking a 14-2 victory over the Falcons in eight innings on Tuesday afternoon.
Ottawa struck first, taking the lead in the top of the second inning.
Jackson Alaniz led off the inning with a double to left and
Jaquavius Davis entered the game as a courtesy runner.
Nicholas Sizemore followed Alaniz's double with one of his own, scoring Davis and the Braves led 1-0. Ottawa increased its lead with a single to right center by
Liam Vulcano. Sizemore scored and Ottawa had a 2-0 lead.
Friends cut into OU's lead with a run in the bottom of the second, 2-1. Ottawa responded with four runs in the top of the third.
Tyler Farnham walked and moved to third on a single to left by
Cole Broughton. A throwing error by the Falcon shortstop scored Farnham and OU had a 3-1 lead.
Blaine Thomas was then hit by a pitch and OU had runners on the corners. Alaniz increased the Brave lead, scoring Broughton to give OU a 4-1 lead. Ottawa scored its final two runs of the inning on
Marcellus Pearson's two run single to right and the Braves lead 6-1.
Ottawa continued to pour it on offensively in the top of the fifth, pushing three runs across home plate. Alaniz singled to center and Davis entered as a courtesy runner. After Pearson's walk,
Pedro Astacio singled to left and Davis scored to give Ottawa a 7-1 lead. Vulcano followed that with a single up the middle, scoring both Pearson and Astacio and OU led 9-1.
The Braves scored two more run in the top of the sixth, with two outs. Thomas walked and moved to second on an Alaniz single. Sizemore singled to left, scoring two and the Braves had an 11-1 lead.
The Falcons cut into the Brave lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth and Ottawa led 11-2. After a scoreless seventh by both teams, OU was able to end the game in the eighth.
Farnham walked and moved to third on a single to left by Broughton. Thomas scored both with his sixth home run of the season and OU took the lead and the game, 14-2.
