LINDSBORG, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University softball team finished the regular season with a split against Bethany College on Friday afternoon at the Bethany Softball Field. The Swedes won game one, 9-6, and the Braves took game two in five innings, 8-0.
Game One
Bethany struck first, taking a 6-0 lead over the Braves in the bottom of the first inning. Ottawa cut into the Swede lead with three runs in the top of the third.
Singles by
Rachel Pederson,
Macy Roever, and
Addison Spencer loaded the bases for the Braves.
Kara Hafenstine walked, scoring Pederson and OU was down 6-1.
Emma Melvin scored both Roever and Spencer with a single to left and the Braves trailed 6-3.
The Swedes scored a run in the bottom of the third, increasing their lead to 7-3. Ottawa answered with three more runs in the top of the fourth.
Megan Kennedy led off the top of the fourth with a home run to left-center field. Pederson singled and Roever connected on her first home run of the season, putting Ottawa within 7-6.
Bethany increased its lead over the Braves with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-6 lead.
OU had its opportunities to cut into the Swede lead. In the fifth and seventh innings, Ottawa had two reach base but OU was not able to get them home and Bethany took the 9-6 victory.

Game Two
Ottawa took the lead in the top of the first inning.
Macy Roever reached first on an infield single to second and then moved to second.
Addison Spencer's single to left advanced Roever to third. Ottawa got on the score board with Roever's steel of home and OU led 1-0.
In the top of the second, the Braves increased their lead over the Swedes.
Morgan Bradford walked and then moved to third on a Swede error.
Devanie Medina reached first on a bunt single, scoring Bradford and Ottawa led 2-0. A sacrifice fly to left by Roever scored Kennedy and OU led 3-0. Ottawa scored its final run of the inning on a double to left-center by Spencer and Ottawa had a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless third and fourth innings by both teams, the Braves scored four runs in the top of the fifth. Spencer singled to center.
Reagan Hammons' double to right moved Spencer to third.
Nayely Delgado's double to right-center scored Spencer and Hammons, giving OU a 6-0 lead. Delgado scored on a single to center by Bradford and the Braves led 7-0. Bradford scored the final run of the inning for the Braves, taking advantage of a Swede miscue and OU led 8-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, it was three up and three down for the OU defense and Ottawa took the 8-0 victory.
