Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime to Evangel, 101-90

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team was defeated 101-90 in overtime by Evangel University on Wednesday night in Wilson Field House.

Ottawa jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and after a 3-pt field goal by Katelyn Alatini, the Braves led 15-9. A basket by Anna Eldridge increased the Brave lead to 17-9 with 1:03 remaining in the first quarter.

Evangel was able to convert a 3-pt play with 26 seconds left in the first = to get within 17-12 of the Braves. Janiyah Hendricks was not able to score on her three attempt as time ran out in the quarter and OU led 17-12 at the start of the second.

The Valor offense picked up in the second quarter as they were able to outscore the Braves 27-21 to take a 39-38 lead at the half.

In the third, Evangel had the 28-21 advantage over the Braves. The Valor shot 62.5 percent from the floor in the third while the Braves shot 43.7 percent and EU had a 67-59 lead at the start of the fourth.

In the final quarter of play, the Braves chipped away at the Valor lead. A basket by Alatini put OU within 73-70 with 6:30 left in regulation. Evangel was able to push its lead to seven points, 79-72. The Braves again rallied, and this time tied the game at 80 all on two free throws by Nora Ford with seven seconds remaining in the contest.

Evangel was able to retake the lead on its final offensive possession of regulation. EU attacked the basket and the Braves were called for a foul. The Valor made both free throws to take an 82-80 lead with four seconds on the clock.

After a timeout by OU, Ford received the ball at the top of the key. She drove down the lane and her jumper found the bottom of the net as time expired and the game into overtime with the score tied, 82-82.

The Valor scored the first 12 points of the overtime period. The Braves were not able to rebound from its slow start, and Evangel took the 101-90 victory.
