OTTAWA, Kan. — The Ottawa University football team delivered a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, rolling to a 37-0 shutout victory over Avila University on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.
First Half
Ottawa wasted little time setting the tone. On the Braves' second play from scrimmage,
Luke Edwards connected with
Quinn Conley on a 40-yard touchdown strike just over two minutes into the game. After a quick defensive stop,
Jordan Clay extended the lead with a 15-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 midway through the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, Ottawa's ground game continued to dominate.
Cooper Parsons powered in from two yards out to push the lead to 20-0, and later,
Malakai Hudson capped a six-play, 26-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown rush just before halftime. Ottawa's defense allowed just 13 yards rushing in the first half and held Avila to four first downs as the Braves took a commanding 27-0 lead into the break.
Second Half
The Braves opened the third quarter with another efficient drive. Clay ripped off multiple long runs before
Anthony Powell punched in a one-yard touchdown, capping a 67-yard march to make it 34-0.
Ottawa's final points came early in the fourth quarter when
Ike Prengel drilled a 38-yard field goal, his longest of the afternoon, to seal the 37-0 shutout.
By the Numbers
Ottawa's offense piled up 432 total yards compared to Avila's 80. The Braves rushed for 293 yards on 54 carries, averaging 5.4 yards per attempt. Clay led the way with 107 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while Hudson and
Jada Andrews added 65 and 64 yards, respectively. Edwards completed 13 of 20 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Ottawa was relentless—allowing just 13 rushing yards and forcing nine Avila punts.
Cade Monroe led the Braves with seven tackles and a sack, while
Teagan Flynn and
Ethan Yinger each added key stops in the backfield.
Prengel contributed seven points, going 4-for-4 on PATs and hitting a field goal, while also averaging 60 yards per kickoff with four touchbacks.
