Box Score Atchison, KAN. - The Ottawa women's lacrosse team started their season with a loss as they were defeated by (5) Benedictine by a score of 26-1 on Saturday morning.
Benedictine came out firing, scoring the first eight goals of the game and leading 8-0 after the first quarter. Ottawa scored what would be their only goal of the game in the second period, that goal coming from
Ashlyn Lopez in her first game as a Brave. Benedictine countered with five goals of their own, and lead 13-1 at halftime. The second half was all Ravens, who used third and fourth quarters of 5-0 and 8-0 to extend their lead to a 26-1 final score.
Ashlyn Lopez scored the lone goal for the Braves, which was unassisted.
Shelby Bearden and
Eliza White split time in the cage for Ottawa, with Bearden making four saves and White making five in her collegiate debut. The Braves were 10-15 in clear attempts, and caused six turnovers.
Ottawa (0-1, 0-0 HAAC) returns to the field on Friday, February 28 as they host (RV) Webber International University at AdventHealth Field. The first of a four game homestand, that game is set to begin at 3:30 PM.
