Softball Hosts Haskell on Thursday

The Braves opened the season with a split against Hastings College on Feb. 2 at Alumni Park. Ottawa fell in game one, 8-3, but rebounded to take game two, 12-5. Game two ended in the fifth inning due to darkness.

This season Ottawa has a .304 batting average, a .418 on base percentage, and a .391 slugging percentage.

OU is ranked 25th in the NAIA in runs (15), 41st in hits (14), 40th in doubles (2), 14th in triples (1), 24th in RBI (14), 40th in extra base hits (3), 43rd in total bases (18), 25th in walks (9), 23rd in batting average (.304), 19th in on base percentage (.418), 25th in slugging percentage (.391), and 42nd in opponent batting average (.340).

Kara Hafenstine leads OU in batting average (.600), RBI (3), slugging percentage (.600), and on base percentage (.600). Macy Roever is Ottawa's leader in stolen bases (3), Lanie Becker leads the team in ERA (6.63), and Cesara Roque is the team's leader in strike outs (4).

Ottawa has a record of 28-2 against Haskell Indian Nations University. The Braves are on a 25 game winning streak against the Indians. The last time OU lost to Haskell was on April 14, 2004 in Lawrence. HINU won the game 10-1. April 14, 2004 is also the first and last time the Braves were swept in a double header by the Indians. Ottawa is 12-0 against Haskell at Alumni Park.  OU won the double header last season on Feb. 6 at Alumni Park, taking game one 12-0 and game two, 22-4. Both games ended in five innings.

Thursday's double header is the season opener for Haskell Indian Nations University. HINU enters this season coming off a 2024 record of 3-23. Haskell is on a three game winning streak dating back to last season. The Indians defeated Arlington Baptist 6-4 on April 20 and then swept Kansas Christian College 10-6 in game one and 10-9 in game two on April 30.

In 26 games last season, the Indians scored 88 runs, had a .240 batting average, had a .314 on base percentage, a .299 slugging percentage, and hit two home runs.

Haskell finished the 2024 season ranked sixth in the NAIA in strike outs (114).
