(RV) Baseball Takes 2 From Bethany

OTTAWA, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University baseball team swept the double header with Bethany College on Friday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves took game one in seven innings, 12-0, and game two 13-0. Jeremy Freeman, Jr. broke the OU single season stolen base record in game two and now has 33 stolen bases this season. The game two win gave OU had coach Jonathan Freemyer coaching win no. 100.

Game One
Ottawa struck first, taking the lead in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Shaun Gomez, Jr. singled up the middle. Jackson Alaniz hit a home run to right, giving OU a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, OU increased its lead. Jesus Rodriguez was hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on a stolen base and then moved third on a throwing error by the Bethany catcher. Jeremy Freeman, Jr. scored Rodriguez with a single to left and OU led 3-0. Freeman stole second, tying the school single season stolen base mark at 33, and then moved to third on a wild pitch. A second wild pitch scored Freeman and OU had a 3-0 lead.

Ottawa scored six more runs in the bottom of the third on four hits and one error to take a 10-0 lead.

The Braves continued to build upon its lead, pushing two more runs across home plate in the bottom of the fourth. Jaquavius Davis doubled to center and advanced to third with a stolen base. Anthony Soria hit a home run to center, scoring Davis and the Braves took the lead and the game 12-0.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
The Braves pushed three runs across home plate in the top of the first to take the early lead. Dylan Garcia was hit by a pitch and Shaun Gomez, Jr. moved him to second with an in field single. Jackson Alaniz scored Garcia and Gomez with a double to left to give OU a 2-0 lead. Ottawa scored its final run of the inning on a Jaquavius Davis ground out. Brian Parry, in the game as a courtesy runner for Alaniz, scored and the Braves had a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Braves scored three more runs. Branden Franz led off OU with a single to left. Donald Rhyne walked and OU had runners first and second. Julius Ryan's single to right scored Rhyne and Franz and the Braves led 5-0. Garcia kept the line moving with a double to left. A steal of third put him 90 feet from home. Davis' single scored Garcia, giving OU a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Braves increased their lead. Franz singled up the middle and moved to third with a single to right by Freeman. Freeman then stole second, breaking the school record for single season stolen bases with 33. Franz was able to score on a wild pitch and the Braves led 7-0.

The Braves scored six more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ottawa took advantage of four errors by the Swedes, taking the lead and the game 13-0.
