SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Ottawa jumped out early and briefly reclaimed the lead in the middle innings, but a six-run third and late offensive surge by Evangel proved too much to overcome in a 17-9 loss Thursday afternoon at University Field.
The Braves scored nine runs on 12 hits, but Evangel answered with 18 hits and scored in five different innings, including a five-run eighth to put the game away.
How It Happened
Ottawa struck first in the second inning.
Jose Vega doubled to center and came home on
Declan Brown's sacrifice fly.

Jeremy Freeman, Jr. for a 3-0 lead.
Evangel responded with a six-run bottom of the third, stringing together four hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly to take a 6-3 advantage.
Ottawa answered in a big way in the fourth. RBI singles from

Evangel chipped away with a run in the fourth, tied the game on a solo homer by Nunes in the fifth, and took the lead for good later in the inning.
A two-run triple in the seventh extended the Crusaders' cushion before Ottawa got one back on
