OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University beach volleyball team hosted Park University in its home opener, falling 5-0 despite several competitive sets on Thursday.
Ottawa's top pairing of
Bailee Nickel and Madison Brauner battled closely with Park's Izabella Ceratti and Jullia Alvarez. The Braves dropped a narrow opening set, 21-19, before Park pulled away in the second set for the straight-set victory.
At the No. 2 position,
Carson Schuman and Hollie Peters faced Aly Anderson and Grecia Ung. Park gained the early momentum, winning the match in two sets, 21-13 and 21-12.
The No. 3 duo of
Samantha Young and Janessa Ross fought through long rallies but fell 21-11, 21-14 to Luna Martins and Daniela Gomez.
Park also claimed the No. 4 and No. 5 matches in straight sets.
Brenna Diller and Brittan Lee competed at No. 4, while
Teagan Norman and Olivia Lewis represented Ottawa in the fifth pairing.
In an exhibition contest,
Jezebel Hobbs and Alexia Maynes dropped a two-set decision to Park's Serena Arruda and Julia Matos.
